Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How is the price compared to tile, wood and carpet?
A. We compete heavily with tile, wood and carpet. We have solutions for all budget ranges.
Q. How are concrete floors on your feet?
A. Concrete floors are similar to walking on a polished marble. Some of our clients have said our floors are easy on their ankles as opposed to their tile.
Q. Are these floors easy to clean?
A. Yes, the easiest floors to clean are concrete floors.
Q. Will my concrete floor scratch?
A. Any surface can scratch, minor scratches are usually not visible. We use the strongest products available to us. Even our gloss finishes are not easily scratched.
Q. What should I do if my floor gets scratched?
A. Generally, scratches are not an issue if a floor is properly treated. If a floor is seriously scratched, it may require an additional finish to be applied. Another option is to wax your floor to keep heavy scratches at bay.
Q. How can I prevent scratches?
A. Keep your floor clean (dirt and dust are abrasive to any surface), Apply felt padding underneath the "feet" of any furniture coming into contact with a concrete floor
Q. Is it hard to keep my concrete floor looking brand-new?
A. Absolutely not. Follow our maintenance instructions and your floor will be looking brand new for years to come.
Q. I love the look of concrete floors but I feel it would create too many hard surfaces in my house. Can I control this?
A. Most of our customers add area rugs in areas where they prefer a softer space. These rugs usually compliment our floors tremendously.
Q. How long does it take to do a concrete floor?
A. This is all dependent on the size and space itself, but most projects take us about a week to complete.
Q. Can I do half of my space first and then the other half later?
A. You can, but expect a paper-thin transition line at the point of termination. It is recommended to do the entire space at once.
Q. How do we prepare our floors for your crew's first day?
A. Remove all items from the space to be done (We can not move items due to liability reasons) and do a quick sweep on the area to remove large debris.
Q. Will there be a lot of dust?
A. We have vacuum attachments on all the equipment we use, but do expect a very thin film of dust on the surrounding space following installation (spring cleaning will take care of this). We also recommend changing your air filters out following installation. We will protect with plastic- spaces that should not be exposed to dust.
Q. How do you prepare your floors? Do you acid-etch?
A. Although acid-etching can be successful when done correctly, it is usually done incorrectly and creates a larger mess than necessary. We consider acid-etching an obsolete method of preparing concrete for a coating. The main purpose of acid-etching is to "etch" or scratch the concrete to create a more-rough profile for the flooring to stick to the concrete. At Modern Concrete Floors, we utilize diamond-impregnated blades mounted on our preparation equipment which creates a more-than-adequate profile for applying a concrete floor. We back this preparation method with a warranty.
Q. Will my floor turn yellow over time?
A. Unless exposed to significant UV rays, a standard concrete floor will not turn yellow nor discolor.
Q. Can I put epoxy outside or will it yellow?
A. On exterior applications, we use products with UV-blocking properties that will not turn your floor yellow when exposed to UV rays. These products are known as polyurethanes and hybrid-polyurethanes, not epoxy.
